Worth visiting if you want a safer, calmer swim with fewer crowds than Armier, but only during settled weather (June–October). Wind-dependent conditions mean you need to be flexible about which beach you actually use on the day.
Wind & sea conditions
Check the wind direction and wind force before you go, if it's coming from the north, north-west, or west, and is wind force 4 or more, head to Mellieha Bay instead, as conditions deteriorate fast but settle within a day. Bring water shoes for the rocky underwater sections.
Common mistakes
Visitors assume it's always calmer than Armier and don't check the wind forecast before going; many also underestimate the sharp rocks in the water and don't bring water shoes, leading to painful feet.
