A small breakwater keeps Fond Għadir calmer than the open coast in typical conditions, but swimming turns dangerous here in Grigal (NE) winds of force 4 or higher; stick to the designated swimming areas and check conditions before getting in.

Common mistakes

Treating it like a shelving sandy beach: the bottom drops away sharply just past the rocks, which catches non-swimmers and small children out. Turning up without swim shoes for the slippery limestone platform, and ignoring wind direction, since a Grigal (NE) blow can turn the water rough despite the breakwater.
